Awarded by Skills and Education Group, the Vehicle Technician Accredited Assessment (VTAA) recognises knowledge and skills at Level 3 for technicians without a formal qualification. It is a certificated course recognised by DVSA as a pre-entry accreditation to become an MOT tester.

This course is an alternative to the IMI Light Vehicle Inspection Technician, and is for technicians who are involved in the inspection, maintenance and repair of light vehicles.

Entry Requirements

It is necessary of have a minimum of 4 years’ experience working in a garage and a basic understanding of MOT Testing.

There are three different ways this course can be run depending on your skills and availability:

  • 1 Day: This is for skilled technicians who are able to compete the assessment with no training.
  • 2 Day
  • 3 Day

Course Content

  • Steering, Suspension, Wheels and Tyres
  • Vehicle Emissions
  • Vehicle Electrics
  • Braking Systems
  • Hybrid and Air Con

After completion of the course you will be able to calibrate emission test equipment before testing a vehicle, accurately inspect a vehicle, diagnose faults and correct repair requirements. You will gain knowledge of the appropriate wiring diagram required for the electrical systems of the vehicle being tested, and have the skills to apply it.

Once you have passed you will gain a lifelong certificate which is accepted as the first step towards achieving your MOT Testers License.
