Awarded by ABC Awards, the NEW Vehicle Technician Accredited Assessment (VTAA) recognises knowledge and skills at Level 3 for technicians without a formal qualification. The VTAA is a certificated course recognised by DVSA as a pre-entry accreditation to become an MOT tester.

Vehicle Technician Accredited Assessment (VTAA) Course Overview

The VTAA course is an alternative to the now discontinued NTTA (Nominated Tester Training Assessment) and is an alternative to the IMI Light Vehicle Inspection Technician. The course will develop your skills around emissions, electrics, steering, suspensions, wheels, tyres and brakes. The Vehicle Technician Accredited Assessment is recognised by the DVSA. To pass the assessment you must pass all 4 modules, which is split into a series of small practical tasks and a 50 question online exam.

We make learning easy, using 90% practical with 10% theory based study and using meaningful assessments that reflect the demands of today’s competitive industry, thus giving you a solid grounding in key principles and ideas.

Once you have passed the VTAA you will gain a lifelong certificate which is accepted as the first step towards achieving your MOT Testers License.

Who should attend the Vehicle Technician Accredited Assessment (VTAA)?

An alternative to the IMI Light Vehicle Inspection Technician, the Vehicle Technician Accreditation Assessment (VTAA) is for technicians who are involved in the inspection, maintenance and repair of light vehicles. We offer 3 different routes to complete the Vehicle Technician Accreditation Assessment (VTAA):

  • 1 Day – Assessment Only
  • 4 Day – Fast Track Course
  • 8 Day Course
Assessment Only

For skilled and experienced technicians who are able to complete the assessment with no training. The assessment can be completed in one day, subject to being of the appropriate standard.

4 Day

Ideal for skilled and experienced technicians, this fast track route is for technicians who want some brushing up and refreshing on key areas before starting the assessment.

8 Day

This is our most popular option for technicians with 4 or more years experience, with good background knowledge. Ideal for skilled and experienced technicians, this route is for technicians who want some brushing up and refreshing on key areas before starting the assessment.

Entry requirements for the Vehicle Technician Accreditation Assessment (VTAA) Course

For entry on to the VTAA course, it is necessary to have a minimum of 4 years’ experience in a working garage and a basic understanding of MOT Testing. With three different routes available and courses running in our 3 centres every week you can choose to study in a way that suits your requirements and availability.

What you can achieve after you have passed the Vehicle Technician Accredited Assessment (VTAA)

Once you have passed the VTAA you will receive a lifelong accreditation that demonstrates your skills and knowledge at Level 3, without a formal qualification. The accreditation is recognised by the DVSA and also provides access to the next stage in your journey to become a qualified MOT Tester. This course is structured so that you can successfully complete all the assessments in one – eight days depending on your experience and according to your training preference.

Assessment: 4 modules (split into 4 practical tasks per module) and a 50 questions exam split into 5 assessments. If you fail any module you are able to retake within 4 months.

Vehicle Technician Accredited Assessment (VTAA) Course Modules:

To pass the VTAA you will be required to successfully complete a range of practical and knowledge based assessments.

  • Steering, Suspension, Wheels/Tyres
  • Vehicle Emissions
  • Vehicle Electricals
  • Vehicle Braking Systems
  • Online Assessment

After completion of the course you will be able to calibrate emission test equipment before testing a vehicle, accurately inspect a vehicle, diagnose faults and correct repair requirements. You will gain knowledge of the appropriate wiring diagram required for the electrical systems of the vehicle being tested, and have the skills to apply it.

Progression

Successful achievement of the Vehicle Technician Accreditation Assessment (VTAA) will allow for progression onto the MOT Tester Training Course.
